- According to The Hollywood Reporter, US Broadcaster HBO is planning a biopic on former beauty queen and singer Anita Bryant. Bryant, who is probably best known as anti-gay activist, once said: "As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children."

Gay 'Sex and the City' creator Darren Star is said to be lined up to direct the film while the creator of TV series 'Runaway', Chad Hodge, is set to write the biopic.

Anita Bryant was a US Christian celebrity, switching to political activism in 1977 when she started a crusade to repeal an ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. It took her coalition less than a year to get the law overturned and it took 20 years for it to be reinstated.

Anita Bryant briefly made it to screens worldwide in 2008 when archival footage of her was featured in Gus Van Sant's 'Milk' film.

The makers say that they are aiming for a nuanced portrayal of Bryant and hope the biopic will answer the questions around what drove her to do the things she did.
